The Invited Guest

Jim and Ida had met in college. Some twenty years later, Ida found out

that Jim now lives in California. She misses him. She had obtained his 

phone number from his brother and decided to call him. Will she be 

disappointed? 

1) Prelude 

A few months ago, Jim got a surprise phone call from Ida. A woman he had

met in college. It has been at least twenty years since he had seen 

her. They had been lovers in college, but were young and ill suited for 

a long-term relationship. Although they were not compatible in a 

relationship, they were very compatible in the sack. 

As they were talking, he begins to recall all the good times they had

spent together, in and out of the bed. He replayed their past sexual 

exploits in his head, all the while searching in vain for the one woman 

that could possible compare in terms of sexual prowess. 

In the two short years they had spent together, he evolve from

inexperienced virginity to complete sexual freedom, as Ida had taken 

pride in fulfilling his every sexual desire. She had also been happy to

Ida had always been an ideal woman; besides responsibilities for her two

daughters, she was a nurse at a nearby nursing home.  More than that,

on vacation in June. He invited her to come to California for a long 

weekend or even a week, all expenses paid. She said that she would love 

to spend part of her vacation with him in California. 

Jim told her that he would need her full name as it appears on her ID to

purchase her round trip airline ticket and have it at the will-call 

desk at the Cleveland airport. "Don't worry about packing much, just 

dress casual and I'll take you shopping for whatever clothing and 

accessory items you may need."  He added.

2) The Flight 

Thursday morning, June 17, Ida arrived at the Cleveland airport two

hours before departure time. She went to the airline will-call counter 

to pick up her reserved ticket. She was expecting to fly coach; thus, 

she was surprise they had a first class booking in her name for the 

nearly five-hour flight to San Francisco. 

She had never flown in first class before and she looked forward to the

experience. As soon as she boarded and set down, the flight attendant 

offered her a glass of champagne and a pair of earphones for her listen 

pleasure. 

Another woman boarded and took the window seat next to her. They had a

somewhat desultory conversation. 

As the plane was taxiing to the runway for takeoff, the flight

attendants demonstrated the safely measures. Then as the plane was 

cruising, they served the food and started playing the on board movie. 

Being in the first class, she had the full attention of the flight 

attendants. They kept her glass topped off with champagne for the 

entire the trip. 

Although the movie was not to her liken, the meal was delicious. Quiet

satisfied and happy, she was soon lost in deep thought. 

She found it hard to wait for the plane to land in San Francisco so she

could see Jim. Ever since, he asked her to come to California, she had 

been imagining being together with him again, talking, laughing and 

making love. In fact, the more she thought of him, the more she 

realized that although it has been years since she last seen him, she 

didn't think she ever stop wanting him. In her mine, she listed the 

things she wants to do. 

She wants to spend time, lots of time, touching him and relearning his

3) Arrival at the San Francisco airport 

Four and a half hours later, the plane was completing its fourth circuit

in the holding pattern above San Francisco. There was a problem on the 

ground and the passengers were beginning to wonder how many more long 

loops the plane was going to make the above the airport. 

Soon the pilot came on the speaker to let them know that the problem has

been resolved and they would be able to land shortly. They found out 

later that an incoming plane had developed some hydraulic problems and 

the air traffic controllers wanted to keep the runways clear until it 

safely landed. 

The 737 banked abruptly as it started the descent into the landing

approach. It made a heavy landing and started slowing as the reverse 

thrusters kicked in. Slowly the plane taxied to the gate and then stop. 

Ida gathered her bag and made her way off the plane ahead of the crowd

in the main cabin. She was feeling a bit tipsy from the champagne as 

she exited the airplane and walked down the long corridor to the 

baggage claim area. 

As she came down the escalator, she looked and spotted Jim right away.

She waived at him and caught his attention. 

For the first time in years, his eyes fell upon the woman that had

occupied his thoughts for the better part of the previous three months. 

He walked briskly at first towards the bottom of the escalator. However,

as he approached the escalator, he slowed his stride, taking the 

opportunity to appreciate her beauty.
